Meeting Topic
On Monday, September 9, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama (HMA) produced 650 Odyssey minivans in two shifts. With that, HMA is on track to achieve a targeted capacity of 150,000 V-6 engines and vehicles per year.
That’s just the latest record set by this greenfield plant that’s become the poster child of Honda’s manufacturing empire. Your latest issue of Automotive Engineering can give you the full story, and our October meeting will give you the cook’s tour.
The Section is chartering a 55-passenger bus (or more) to make the trip to Lincoln, Alabama. The bus will leave the Ford Taurus Assembly Plant in Hapeville at 6:00 PM. When we get to the plant, we’ll have a light dinner (cold cuts and such) and embark on an hour-and-a-half tour of the facility, conducted by one of Honda’s engineers. We should be back in Hapeville around midnight. (No eating or drinking on the bus, by the way.)
Clearly, head count is critical for planning. If you make a reservation and don’t show, you will be severely reprimanded. Near-empty busses are expensive—that’s why we need your reservation a week in advance.
